Why We Celebrate Wayne Morse

Wayne Morse was one of the most prolific statesmen to ever serve Oregon. He had earned a number of nicknames during his time, including the “Tiger of the Senate.” In 1944, Morse won his first election to become one of Oregon’s senators, and he served until 1968. On Friday, April 28th, we will honor his legacy at the 8th Annual Wayne Morse Gala. Continue reading

Important — Line 68 on Your Tax Form

Here’s a message from the Democratic Party of Oregon.

When you file your 2014 taxes using Form 40, you can invest in your values. Fill in “501” for Political party on Line 68, and the state will send $3 of your rebate to the Democratic Party of Oregon.

We call it the “Check for Democracy”—a program that funds campaigns through real grassroots politics, rather than wealthy special interests.

It’s easy to find line 68 in TurboTax, and here’s where you’ll find it on your paper return:

We’re deeply honored to announce that Governor Kate Brown will be our special guest at the 6th Annual Wayne Morse Gala on April 17th, 2015. She joins keynote speaker U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, who the Washington Post called a “rising star” and “the funniest new member of Congress.”

This is going to be an outstanding event headlined by two powerful women who have worked tirelessly to serve the public and achieved the highest results. Get tickets today — $125.

Governor Brown has been a leader in increasing government transparency and accountability, has identified millions of dollars in savings for Oregon taxpayers, and spearheaded legislation that the Oregonian called the “state’s most sweeping package of ethics reforms in 34 years.” She has been a champion for Oregon’s working families and small businesses for over 20 years.

Senator Klobuchar, who comes from a background of miners, newspapermen, and schoolteachers in Minnesota, has made a name for herself on legislation to provide middle-class tax relief and paycheck fairness for women. Working Mother Magazine named her “Best in Congress” in 2008.

At the same time, the situation in Clackamas County remains the same — the county is definitely in play from a political standpoint.

The following is a response to a recent email request from State Labor Commission Brad Avakian for funds for the state party. Avakian is a man we admire and respect. However, the response to him is crystal clear: Continue reading
