The Clackamas County Democratic Party congratulates Rob Wagner, of Lake Oswego, on his appointment to Senate District 19. He will serve out the remainder of Senator Richard Devlin’s term after the senator resigned to accept an appointment by Gov. Brown to the Pacific Northwest Electric Power and Conservation Planning Council.
Also under consideration were Claudia Black, of Tualatin, and Daphne Wysham, of West Linn. All three candidates were selected by a nominating convention of PCPs from the three counties affected by SD 19: Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington. On Monday, January 29th, the commissioners from these three counties interviewed the candidates and heard testimony on their behalf. The commissioners had a difficult decision with three exceptionally qualified candidates, each with their own unique perspective. When the commissioners were polled, Wagner won by a clear majority. For the wonks, the vote came down to 6 votes for Claudia Black to 8 votes for Rob Wagner. For the truly wonkish, the weighted (by county) outcome was 60 for Wagner to 31.4 for Black.
Below is the video of the meeting.
Although neither Ms. Black nor Ms. Wysham was selected, we are proud of their campaigns and are certain they will not fade into the background but will be moving on to other fights.
Rob Wagner is an excellent choice, with a great deal of diverse support. We are confident he will be an excellent senator and will be successful in his run for office when the time comes. His campaign was quite impressive to witness, full of energy and support.
Again, our congratulations to Rob Wagner, and congratulations on an excellent run by Claudia Black and Daphne Wysham!
